Diagnosis of Vaginitis is Complicated
Presenting patients have overlapping symptoms.
Vaginitis is a condition that can be diagnosed through a clinical examination. However, the treatment prescribed may not be specific to the patient's infection, leading to sequential treatment failures and prolonged suffering. Additionally, the use of inappropriate treatments can increase the risk of antimicrobial resistance. Since the causative agents of vaginitis belong to three distinct classes but present with similar symptoms, a precise diagnosis through multiplexed PCR testing can enable more targeted and timely treatments.
While Bacterial Vaginitis (BV) is the most common cause of vaginitis/vaginosis syndrome, vaginitis can also be caused by Trichomonas (TV) and yeasts such as Candida (VVC).* Correct diagnosis by a clinician can be difficult without time-consuming laboratory send-outs. Imagine being able to get lab quality results at the point of care.
